City of Deltona’s New Community Center

DELTONA, FL – 28 Feb, 2017 – Construction is now underway on the City of Deltona’s new multi-purpose community building, called The Center at Deltona, after the official ground-breaking ceremony on January 26th.  The architectural firm, CT Hsu & Associates, designed the open concept facility, incorporating large expanses of glass with metal framing to allow for natural light illumination in the lobby and senior hall.  The Center also takes advantage of design concepts that allow the building incorporate green-building LEED technology in the future.

The approximately 30,000 square foot Center’s design uses best practices for multi-audience functionality.  There is a dedicated spacious area set aside to meet the needs of Deltona’s senior population.  The senior hall includes a large dining space as well as a section set aside for games and leisure.  Additionally, the “glass wall” is a design feature, providing an open transitional look bringing the outside to the interior.  This was intentional as studies show bright open areas are important in generating positive mental health in our senior population.

The Council On Aging will also base its “Meals on Wheels” home food delivery out of the Center.  The overall design keeps the rest of the Center, the banquet- presentation hall and meeting rooms, separate from the Senior Hall, and as a result the Center can be the site of events while not interrupting the daily activities of the senior visitors.  The Center will also have a landscaped lawn area set aside for outside events.

The Center is located on the Howland Crossing business park, on Martin Luther King Avenue, and the ribbon-cutting is planned for December 2017.
